“Those measures are proof of the efforts invested by the government to suppress the grey economy as one of the priorities in creating better living and working conditions in the country,” she told a conference on the grey economy.

According to Brnabic, changes in Serbia are being done in partnership between the government, economy and the National Alliance for Local Economic Development (NALED).

A national programme to suppress the grey economy was presented at the conference. Under that programme, 11,000 employees and 9,000 companies would start doing business legally over the next two years and the grey zone turnover would be reduced by some 200 million Euros.

The programme was drawn up by NALED with the support of the German development aid agency GIZ to achieve more efficient monitoring, improve the operations of the Tax Authority, introduce stimulative measures for legal business operations and employment, reduce administrative and para-fiscal burdens and raise awareness about the suppressing of the grey economy.
