National Emergency Situations Sector chief Predrag Maric said that the waters were slowly withdrawing later in the day.
“The situation is calming down in these (nine) places, waters are withdrawing slowly. Then the water pumping will follow to create conditions for people to return to their homes,” Maric said.
Earlier, the state waters company Srbijavode ordered the implementation of flood defence measures across the country after several central Serbia municipalities declared states of emergency due to flooding.
The Republic Hydrometeorology Authority has predicted higher water levels in all rivers in the country following significant amounts of rain, Srbijavode said in a news release.
