Serbia's Parliament Speaker: No more senseless amendments, urgent procedures

Addressing the 7th Convent on European Union, Gojkovic commented on the remarks from the reportand said there was room for the improvement of the parliament's work.

She said she and the EU ambassador to Serbia Sem Fabrizi agreed they did not agree on all the report's elements.

Fabrizi said the EC report was balanced and objective and that it wasn't a copy-paste of the previous releases in any of its parts.

The head of the EU delegation in Belgrade thus commented on President Aleksandar Vucic's statement that the last report was simply a copy-paste of the previous two.

Gojkovic said the number of laws adopted in the urgent procedure would be restricted to those like the ratification of the international agreements, and the situation concerning floods.

Other, which do not fulfil the criteria, will be sent back to the Government, she has added.

Gojkovic said the practice of submitting senseless amendments by the ruling coalition MPs stopped in January and regretted the reports did not mention that. She also said that the opposition started with the practice of submitting such amendments.

The majority of Serbia's opposition started boycotting the parliament in January for the same reasons as the reports' said were the weaknesses in the assembly's work.

The ruling coalition tried to persuade them to return to the sessions, but they refused.

They even did not take part in the session on Kosovo where Vucic decided to inform the MPs and the public about Serbia's position concerning the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations.

They explained they didn't expect anything new and that putting Kosovo on the agenda after almost seven years was a trick to make them back to the benches.
