Monthly household expenses higher than income in Serbia

The average monthly household income in Serbia stood at 65,872 Dinars (1 Euro – 117 Dinars) in the first quarter of the year while expenses stood at 66,064 Dinars, the Republic Statistics Office said on Friday.

The income was nominally higher by 5.4 percent compared to the first quarter of 2018 and 0.1 percent higher than in the fourth quarter of last year while average monthly expenses stood 3.8 percent higher than a year earlier and 0.1 percent higher than at the end of 2018.

Salaries account for 49.3 percent of that income, pensions for 32.3 percent while income from farming, hunting and fishing accounts for 4.7 percent.

In household expenses, food and beverage costs account for 34 percent while housing, power and fuels account for 17.3 percent of those expenses. Transport and communications account for almost 15 percent of expenses, clothing and footwear 5.3 percent, recreation and culture 4.7 percent, alcohol and tobacco 4.7 percent, health care 4.4 percent and maintenance costs 4.2 percent.
