Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday that in the last 15-20 years, the authorities in Serbia “were ashamed to speak about our heroes only to please those who killed our nation and to remain in power,” N1 reported.
Taking part in the marking of 20 years of the Battle of Kosare on the border with Albania during 1989-1999 war in Kosovo, Vucic said that "we have no right to keep silent at this place. I’m proud that we are not silent any more, that we admire our heroes, speak loudly about them… Twenty disgraceful years were too many."
The battle was between the then Yugoslav Army and Kosovo guerrillas who tried to enter the Yugoslav territory at the time from neighbouring Albania.
“Vucic told the manifestation in Belgrade attended by the country’s top leadership that “any new adventure would be yet another defeat for Serbia” and that “there are not enough them or us to kill each other forever.”
However, he warned that “the Albanians would suffer a defeat if tried to repeat the March 2004 pogrom” when many Serbs left Kosovo due to serious unrest there.
