Serbia will have to earmark some five billion Euros over the next few years to build the processing facilities it needs to secure drinking water supplies and protect the environment, NALED Executive Director Violeta Jovanovic told a conference on the treatment of waste waters. She said that some 20 percent of the population do not have access to water supply systems and almost 50 percent do not have access to sewer systems.
According to Jovanovic, Serbia has increased its water supply network by an average of 2.5 percent a year over the past five years and the length of the sewer system by 1.7 percent a year.
The conference was organized by the Vojvodina provincial government, the Embassy of Israel and NALED.
