Europa Nostra is a pan-European network of 250 non-governmental organisations, 150 partner societies and 1,500 individuals from 50 European countries.

Stari Grad municipality is a signatory to the Berlin invitation for action which obliges politician and decision-makers to pay attention to culture and historical heritage. The document strictly regulates decisions on new urban planning and construction projects which must be taken with the full inclusion and respect of experts and the public.

A statement from the municipality said that Belgrade Fortress was nominated as a transnational project for the UNESCO world heritage list - Frontiers of the Roman Empire.

The Belgrade authorities started works on building a gondola in the Kalemegdan park a part of the Belgrade Fortress and prompted a bitter reaction from the experts, including Serbia’s Academy of Sciences and Arts (SANU) and Stari Grad residents.

Europa Nostra supported the petition against the gondola launched by many experts' associations, scientific and professional organisations and institutes, and its expert delegation visited Belgrade invited by the national Europa Nostra Serbia.
