The people of two Kosovo places – Strpce and Donja Bitinja – gathered on Monday in a protest against the building of small hydro-power plants on three rivers in their district, the KoSSev website reported.

The works on the Obereke power plant stooped and the people from Strpci, both local Albanians and Serbs, demanded the municipality to revoke permits for the power plant constructions.

Agron Rushiti from the Donja Bitinja village said there was no public debate on the issue. “We haven’t taken part in any public discussion about this construction,” he said.

Rushiti said there would be no life for the villagers without water, adding the level of the rivers was dropping.

Strpci’s Deputy Mayor had a meeting with an Albanian and a Serb from the town, reportedly telling them the ban on the power plant construction was issued in 2016, and that Kosovo’s police special force had discovered the forged documents.

The Communal Inspection will protect the site.
