Local elections will be held in the southern Serbia municipality of Medvedja on September 8, a statement from the parliament speaker’s cabinet said on Monday.

The statement said that Parliament Speaker Maja Gojkovic called the local elections in that municipality which has a large ethnic Albanian population and borders on Kosovo.  

The decision takes effect the day after it is published in the Official Gazette, the statement said but did not specify when that will be.
