Harchenko spoke Serbian at the ceremony, a presidency press release said. “That shows the importance that President (Vladimir) Putin attaches to this country,” it added.

The ambassador told Vucic that Russia wants to continue the good relations and passed on Putin’s invitation to the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe day on May 9, 2020.   The press release said they discussed the halt in the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue.

Botsan Harchenko (62) is an experienced career diplomat who headed the Russian Foreign Ministry Fourth European Department and held senior posts in the Russian embassies in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. He was also the ministry special envoy for the Balkans.
