The Serbian National Bank (NBS) will not allow greater fluctuations in the Dinar exchange rate as recommended by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), NBS Governor Jorgovanka Tabakovic said on Wednesday.
The recommended policy, intended to increase the use of the domestic currency, did not yield good results in Albania, Tabakovic told a presentation of an annual report on the stability of the financial system in 2018.
The IMF is a partner that Serbia talks to, she said, adding that the IMF officials were not unanimous when the recommendation for Serbia was adopted. “There is no reason to change a policy which yields good results: savings in Dinars have risen four-fold since 2012 and now stand at more than 70 billion which is proof that the population trusts the national currency,” the NBS Governor said.
