Serbian military armed to secure peace, minister says

“The stronger the Army of Serbia (VS) is, the stronger and more stable Serbia is, the more peaceful and safe the Balkans will be,” the minister told a ceremony in the northern city of Novi Sad marking VS River Flotilla day.  

“No one should fear the arming of the VS but we will also not allow anyone to decide how and where we will get arms and equipment because our weapons will never be misused,” Vulin is quoted as saying in a ministry press release.  

He said that the VS is capable of guaranteeing peace and security for everyone in Serbia.  

“A strong military and a strong Serbia are guarantees of peace in the entire Balkans,” he said, adding that every member of the Serbian military will always support President Aleksandar Vucic’s policies of peace and stability.  

August 6 was chosen for River Flotilla day to mark the anniversary of the launching of the first Serbia armored combat ship the Jadar on August 6, 1915.
