Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic spent part of the night with traffic and other police patrols during their regular operations in Belgrade, the ministry said in a press release on Thursday.

It said that the minister and Police Director Vladimir Rebic visited several checkpoints where the “police were ensuring the safety of the citizens”.

“During the night, the police recorded 227 traffic violations, including 56 intoxicated drivers, Three of them were detained because of high alcohol levels in their blood. Police Intervention Unit officers arrested one person who was found in possession of a pistol with 15 rounds of ammunition,” the press release said.

Minister Stefanovic also had an opportunity to see Intervention Unit officers use Android radio stations which are to be used by the entire police force by the end of the year. He said the new technology allows quick access to data bases and operate in a separate police network.
