Sociologist Vesna Pesic told the Beta news agency that she believes that the dialogue between the authorities and the opposition is about the electoral conditions of deception because there is electoral legislation in Serbia which is not being respected or implemented.

She said the dialogue was initiated by President Aleksandar Vucic himself and external factors.
“None of the demands will be met. While Aleksandar Vucic is in power, there will be no fair elections, as in a dictatorship, there is no choice. To expect that he will give up on breaching the law, interfere in the election and implement the usual methods of ‘invincibility, is naive to even consider,” Pesic told ‘Danas’ in an interview.
She emphasised that the dialogue between the representatives of the government and the opposition was initiated by "external factors and Aleksandar Vucic himself", as he does not benefit from a boycott of the election by one part of the opposition and she added that the boycott would represent a "moral slap" for Vucic’s power.
She explained that this is why the NGO ‘Open Society Foundation’ has taken over the mediating role with the goal to incite the opposition to "run in the election and to mitigate the polarised situation regarding elections with some cosmetic repairs".
