Serbs and Albanians learn each other’s language in Kosovo

The reason is to improve joint life and better understanding.

The idea came from the Municipality authorities headed by Qëndron Kastrati, 30, the youngest Mayor in Kosovo and the son of former dissident and a member of Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) who was killed during the 1989-1999 war in the then Serbia’s province.

He told N1 the move was just a beginning of the process of removing prejudices.

“This is one of the ways, but only a beginning, because it’s crucially important for the future to start this process with young generations which are still free of prejudices,” Kastrati said.

He added it was time to say that there were more things which connected those which separated people in Kosovo.  

Both Serbs and Albanians who N1 reporter Zana Cimili talked to in Kamenica agreed that knowing both languages was an essential thing for better communication, understanding and everyday life.
