Women’s Initiative calls Serbian president to stop gender divisions

A statement issued by the organization on Tuesday said that Vucic’s statement that the presidency building will only be guarded by women military police officers is “a message to all women in Serbia that they aren’t capable of doing some jobs”.  

Vucic told Sunday’s media conference following an incident at the Saturday 1 in 5 Million protest that the presidency building would no longer be guarded by men military police officers but only by women.  

The Initiative said Vucic’s statement was a message to women that they should know their place and not interfere in the affairs of men since “presumably the women military police officers aren’t capable of doing their job on their own and someone will have to jump in and help them”. Vucic sees no problem in sending someone, who he feels is incapable of defending themselves and doing their job, to face “haters and destroyers” (as he termed the protest participants) to serve as cannon fodder, the statement said.
