First formal election coalition formed in Kosovo

The Social Democratic Party of Kosovo (PSD) and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) led by Shpend Ahmeti and Ramush Haradinaj respectively formed an election coalition, the Pristina Koha website reported on Monday as carried by the KoSSev new agency.

 Haradinaj, whose resignation from the prime minister post prompted early elections in Kosovo due next month, told media that the majority of his AAK party Executive Board voted for the coalition.

"This agreement has programme points and all other things necessary to enter the race successfully,” Haradinaj said.

Ahmeti, current mayor of capital Pristina, did not address the media after the deal was agreed.

A joint news conference of the two parties is expected later in the day. Early elections will be held in Kosovo on September 8, after

Haradinaj resigned as premier folowing a call from the Special Court for Kosovo located in The Hague to give a statement as a suspect for allged war crimes committed by the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) during the 1998-1999 war against Belgrade police and military in the then Serbia's province.
