Deputy leader of the opposition People’s Party and the head of the Alliance for Serbia (SzS) councillors in Belgrade assembly said on Wednesday that #1 in 5 million anti-regime protests would become more massive once the opposition started the joint campaign for the boycott of the spring elections, the Beta news agency reported.

Nikola Jovanovic added that all members of the most significant opposition SzS bloc were in favour of the boycott and that the fight outside the institutions was not only a prelude to the struggle for a free and fair vote but that “it is a pre-condition for a change of the whole system which is our ultimate goal.”

“That will give the protest full sense and new enthusiasm. The idea of resisting this madness and the corrupted system is the main one. Then, we’ll make the election day a climax of the true will of the people which they will show by flooding the streets,” Jovanovic said in an interview with Direktno website.

He added that it would happen “instead of taking part in (Serbia’s President Aleksandar) Vucic’s play – fake elections.”

Jovanovic said that “a political front for the boycott” should become “public front of resistance."

Besides the opposition parties, the front, he added, would embrace prominent individuals, civic associations and unions.

According to Jovanovic, any political organisation which would take part in the next spring elections would show they cared only about their interest and thus did not deserve to be called opposition.
