The Together for Serbia Party, led by Nebojsa Zelenovic said on Friday it joined other parties and organisations which announced the boycott of Serbia’s general elections due in spring next year citing there were no free and fair conditions for the race, the Beta news agency reported.

Before Together for Serbia, a few other opposition parties and organisations said they would boycott the vote citing the same reason.

The largest umbrella organisation The Alliance for Serbia (SzS) said it would also ignore the elections, but that the time of the decision announcement depended on each party individually.

Some opposition politicians said they would wait for the elections to be called and then tell if they would take part.

“We are aware of the responsibility for the country’s future and did all we could to get the conditions for a free and fair vote. We had a constructive and well-intended attitude in the discussions with the authorities, and the meetings with the representatives of the international community but (President Aleksandar) Vucic decided to push the country into a deep crisis with fake elections,” a statement from Zelenovic’s party said.

He added that the opposition “wants to change the regime in elections, not in the street and that’s why we put all our efforts into the fight for a free and fair vote which must be held at least nine months after the conditions were met. That will happen under the people’s pressure much earlier that Vucic thinks,” the statement said.
