The Serbian government is going to be the investor in the construction of a metro in Belgrade, a working group chaired by deputy Prime Minister and Construction and Infrastructure Minister Zorana Mihajlovic decided on Thursday.

“The construction of two metro lines in Belgrade is one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Serbia and certainly is the biggest infrastructure project in Belgrade’s modern history which is why we decided that the Serbian government should appoint a special financial advisor for the project while the city of Belgrade should name a technical advisor to monitor the project together,” Mihajlovic said and added that a legal framework also has to be secured.

The working group meeting was attended by officials from the Serbian president’s cabinet, ministries, the railways, Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojicic and his deputy Goran Vesic.
