Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told UN mission chief in Kosovo Zahir Tanin that he expects the international community to make sure the October 6 parliamentary elections are peaceful.
A press release quoted the president as saying that he hopes the Serbs will be able to freely elect their representatives.
The meeting discussed the situation in Kosovo prior to a report on UNMIK which the UN Secretary General is due to present to the Security Council in October.
Vucic said the UN Security Council sessions which discuss UNMIK are important for Serbia because they keep attention on the Kosovo issue and provide regular information on the political and security situation which the president said is far from stable and peaceful. “The presence of the UN and other international mission in Kosovo is more than necessary as a guarantee of the safety of the Serb people,” he said.
