The US embassy in Pristina said on Tuesday that Washington did not support any party or any candidate ahead the Sunday’s early general elections, reacting to news that a former US official came to Kosovo in support of the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) Kadri Veseli, the Beta news agency reported, citing the embassy’s statement.

The media in Kosovo reported that Matthew Whitaker, former US acting Justice Minister in President Donald Trump's administration arrived in Kosovo to support Veseli in fighting against corruption and to strengthen Pristina – Washington relations.
DPK confirmed Whitaker’s role in its campaign. Besides, it posted two huge billboards on its main building portraying Veseli with Trump and former US President Bill Clinton.
“The US Government does not back any political party or a candidate in this week’s elections. We respect the right and responsibility of Kosovo’s voters to choose their future,” the embassy statement said.
