Boris Tadic, the leader of the opposition Social-Democratic Party (SDS) and former head of state, told N1 TV Pressing political talks show on Tuesday that only if united in one big organisation the opposition could dethrone President Aleksandar Vucic and his ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
He added that those who “think that movements and NGOs can change the system are wrong.”
However, Tadic said the boycott of the general elections due next spring in Serbia would be the most probable choice of the largest number of opposition parties.
“I can’t speak on behalf of the whole opposition… but our stand is that there are no conditions for a fair vote in these circumstances.
He said the boycott “is very important as a protest against the current regime and a message to the European politicians.”
“Some European politicians used Vucic to deliver the political options of those who recognised Kosovo’s independence. Some of them want to prevent the boycott to give Vucic new legitimacy because they still hope he will deliver what they want to get,” Tadic said.
