The Serbian state TV (RTS) said on Wednesday that charges had been filed against students who painted its entrance pink because the public broadcaster’s CEO was obliged to do so under the law.

Activists of the 1 in 5 Million initiative used pink paint on the RTS building entrance in an allusion to the private pro-government TV Pink.

The RTS statement said that CEO Dragan Bujosevic is “not trying to intimidate members of the 1 in 5 Million political movement” and added that the law obliges the CEO to “take every measure to protect the property used by the institution and file charges against anyone who damages it”. It added that it is up to the courts to establish responsibility. “The protest organizers know those facts and they would do everything to protect their property,” the statement said.

Leaders of the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS) gathered in front of the RTS headquarters in a show of solidarity with the students who painted the entrance pink and had charges filed against them by Bujosevic.
