Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic said on Monday that Serbia has secured housing for almost 4,000 refugee families in cooperation with the Regional Housing Program.
“The Regional Housing Program and Serbia have cooperated to secure funds to solve the housing needs for more than 7,000 refugee families. To date, we can proudly say that we are nearing 4,000 housing solutions,” Dacic is quoted as saying in a ministry press release. Dacic presented 15 contracts to refugee families from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia for packages of construction materials.
Dacic said that the Serbian government has secured a total of 31 million Euro for the Regional Housing Program, most of it for construction land and infrastructure in communities where refugee families are building their new homes. “Housing is being built in more than 40 towns and cities … and the total approved amount in grants is 134 million Euro,” the minister said.
The Regional Housing Program is financed by donations with the European Union as the biggest donor and the Council of Europe Development Bank managing the fund.
