The Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic had to leave a gallery where he promoted his book escorted by security since angry Belgraders waited for him and chased him in the central pedestrian Knez Mihailova St, booing him and yelling “Vesic thief,” late on Monday and on Tuesday he accused an opposition leader of burning his book, N1 reported.
Belgrade’s residents are furious with works in the capital which are either damaging to the old town or make traffic chaos, and which for they blame the Deputy Major.
There were some skirmishes between Vesic’s bodyguards and the activists of the opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS), according to the Beta news agency’s report.
People chased Vesic almost to his car, which then speeded away.

After he escaped, pro-government Pink TV reported an incident involving a video of the burning of one copy of Vesic’s book.
The video doesn’t show people who are setting the book on fire, but Vesic immediately accused Dragan Djilas, an opposition leader and former Mayor of Belgrade.
SzS said the video was fake, planted by Beba Popovic, a controversial marketing expert, who was present at the promotion.
