Risk of poverty lower, Serbian Statistics Office says

The 2018 risk of poverty rate in Serbia was 24.3 percent and was 1.4 percent lower than in 2017, the Serbian Republic Statistics Office said on Tuesday.

The Statistics Office said that the risk of poverty rate includes people who are necessarily poor but are at great risk of falling into poverty.  

Persons aged between 18 and 24 fall into the group with the highest risk of poverty (29.1 percent) along with minors under the age of 18 (28.8 percent). The lowest risk of poverty rate is among people over the age of 65 (21.1 percent).  

The highest risk of poverty rate is among households with two adults and three or more dependent children (53.6 percent) and single people under the age of 65 (37.2 percent).  

The risk of poverty rate was highest among the unemployed over the age of 18 (49 percent) while the lowest rate was among people working for others (6.8 percent). The rate among the self-employed stood at 31 percent and at 17.1 percent among pensioners.
