If any new country joins EU it will be Serbia, Vucic says

Van Rompuj said the EU and Serbia had shared values, democracy and geography, that the country was encircled with the EU states and that its destiny was in the bloc.

Commenting on Belgrade – Pristina relations, Rompaj said Kosovo and Serbia had to build confidence.

Vucic said his country had a lot to do, but Kosovo had always been the issue.

He added that North Macedonia and Greece were dealing with a name when reaching a historic agreement last year, and not with a single square meter.

“Everyone expects Serbia to recognise Kosovo’s independence, but what is offered to Serbia? Once, it may be an EU member. But what’s the real offer? I asked them ‘if we settle that, will we become a member?’ They said - ‘you are a pragmatic man, see what the circumstances are'.” Vucic said.    

Earlier on Tuesday, Rompaj told Belgrade daily Politika the EU remained firmly committed to encouraging Serbia on its European path because they share a common destiny.
