US Ambassador in Pristina Philip Kosnett told the KoSSev news portal on Tuesday that he is convinced that Kosovo will become a member of the United Nations and other international organizations.

The United States and European Union are committed to supporting Kosovo and Serbia in their efforts to reach a comprehensive agreement to build a better future, he said. The ambassador called Pristina to revoke the 100 percent tariffs on Serbian goods and Belgrade to end its campaign to convince other countries to withdraw their recognition of Kosovo.

According to Kosnett, Belgrade and Pristina should be creating conditions to improve relations and not bring in more obstacles. The level of trust is very low but I really believe that the new Kosovo government and whatever government is formed after the elections in Serbia will continue the process, he said.

The ambassador said that Albin Kurti, the candidate for Kosovo’s prime minister, knows that the Belgrade-backed Serb List is a political reality which he can’t ignore.

He said that Washington never backed an exchange of territory or similar but added that if the two sides want to talk about demarcation or changes to the borders they should not be stopped.
