Serbian Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic said on Wednesday that members of 22 organized crime groups had been arrested since the start of the year.
He said that the police arrested 128 members of those groups, most of which were involved in drug trafficking. “The police seized more than 6.2 tons of narcotics in Serbia and took part in nine international operations which resulted in the seizure of 1.9 tons of cocaine and the discovery of seven drug laboratories,” a ministry press release quoted him as saying.
He said that more than a million migrants had crossed Serbia since the start of the migrant crisis, adding that there are 4,000 in the country at present. The minister said that Serbia introduced steps to reinforce its borders and prevent illegal migration and people smuggling and invested effort to create humane conditions for the migrants in the country.
The press release said that Stefanovic delivered a lecture on the effects of international cooperation on Serbia’s security at the criminal police academy of a German federal university.
