One in three Serbian households connected to sewer network

Every third household in Serbia does not have access to a sewer network, the Nova Ekonomija magazine reported in its latest issue.

According to data from the Republic Statistics Office, the number of households which are connected to local sewer networks rose by just four percent between 2014 when 59 percent of households were connected to sewer networks and 2018 when 63 percent were connected.

A total of 1,528,161 households were connected to local sewer networks, an increase of 63,779 over a period of five years. In the Belgrade area, just a few hundred households got connected to their local sewer networks between 2014 and 2016 with the number rising to 3,000 in 2018, the magazine. It added that the number of businesses that connected to their local sewers rose by almost 20,000 from 326,168 in 2014 to 345,022 last year while in the Sumadija and Western Serbia areas 385,637 had sewer network connections in 2018, an increase of more than 24,000 over 2014.
