On January 1, 2020, Belgraders woke up without two unusual things: there were no snow and plastic carries were finally expelled for good from supermarkets and other stores. The disobedience will be fined from 25,000 to 150,000 Dinars (1 EUR = 118 RSD) for endangering the environment.

If that was not good news for plastic carriers’ producers and those who were used to them, one other decision was an excellent novelty for car owners in Serbia – as of the start od this year, vehicle registration would be valid for good unless damaged or stolen. Until now, they had to be changed every nine years for the appropriate fee.

The first 2020 babies born in Belgrade were a girl and two boys, whose parents received   300,000 Dinars each.

Those who spent the New Year’s Eve at the main city square danced in the open to the tunes of many musicians, including a regional folk star Fahreta Jahic, aka Lepa Brena.

However, not everyone spent the last night of the old year by only having fun. Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin, accompanied by the Army of Serbia (VS) top brass, visited the 250th Rocket Brigade, where he was assured that VS was ready to defend the country at any time.
