Montenegro’s Government has accused Serbia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic of spreading fake news over a statement he recently made in a Serbian TV programme.

On its Twitter page, the Government of Montenegro posted a clip from the ‘Cirilica’ programme where the official said that about 29 percent of citizens in Montenegro have declared themselves Serbs in the census while they only make up five percent of the country’s administration and that those who identify themselves as Serbs are swiftly fired.

He then provided an example.

“My chief of security, who is present here, comes from Bijelo Polje. His brother worked in the Ministry of Agriculture of Montenegro, in some inspection department. When he said he was a Serb, he was fired,” Dacic said in the programme on January 13.

The Government of Montenegro said that Vinko Puric, the person Dacic was talking about, is a full-time employee of the company Monteorganica and that that company has, since it was established, been financed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Montenegro.
