Disbanded DS youth wing steps out of Alliance for Serbia

The opposition Democratic Party (DS) youth wing (Demokratska Omladina - DO) said on Wednesday that it would pull out of all Alliance for Serbia (SzS) activities following what it said were attacks on the DS and its senior official Dragoljub Micunovic by Dveri leader Bosko Obradovic.

The DO was disbanded by the DS executive board on November 30, 2019 following accusations that it acted in violation of party procedures. A new DO leadership was elected just days before the decision to disband the youth wing.
“The DO has condemned that behavior of Dveri as an organization which has continuously disregarded the fact that it is politically active within the SzS. Also, despite all efforts, appeals and demands to resolve this situation which we sent to SzS leaders and the DS leader, the DO will pull itself out of all SzS activities until it become clear whether the SzS supports the radical activities of Dveri and its leader Bosko Obradovic,” a press release said.
It added that the DO would continue to fight for fair elections, freedom of the media and judiciary and a culture of dialogue, adding that “Bosko Obradovic’s actions put him in the same category as the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) or even (ultra-nationalist Vojislav Seselj’s) Serbian Radical Party (SRS)”.
The press release said that the DS should be in an Alliance for Serbia which does not include Dveri or should not be part of that alliance.
