Serbian opposition leader Dragan Djilas said on Thursday that he and fellow opposition leaders told MEPs in Brussels that N1 TV is under constant attack.

“We told the European Parliament members that there is a cable TV station in Serbia which is the only professional station, where people can hear something different, not just (President Aleksandar) Vucic and (Prime Minister Ana) Brnabic. We told them that the station is a constant target of attacks, that the president insults journalists and puts them in danger,” he said commenting his recent visit to the European Parliament.

The leader of the Party of Freedom and Justice also told MEPs that no member of the opposition has appeared on a TV with national coverage in Serbia. “We also told them that N1 journalists are in danger,” he said.

“The people in the European Parliament couldn’t understand that but when we showed them the date they understood. They asked us whether Vucic was leading the country towards the EU. We said yes in words but actually no. They couldn’t believe that the president was saying that NIN (weekly magazine) and cartoonists were preparing his assasination. I think this will all end with N1 TV being visible everywhere in Serbia,” Djilas said.
