Thousands marched in religious processions across Montenegro on Sunday night in a show of solidarity with the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) and to protest against the recently adopted law on religious communities, an N1 journalist reported.
More than 10,000 people marched through the capital Podgorica while similar processions were organized in several other places across the country. The procession in Podgorica stopped briefly in front of the Montenegrin government headquarters and parliament with the crowd shouting Get Out Milo (Djukanovic, president) before continuing the protest march.
Podgorica daily Vijesti reported that the protest column in Podgorica was joined by smaller groups of people who began their march from towns and villages around Podgorica earlier in the day.
Protest gatherings in Montenegro have been ongoing since the law on religious communities was adopted in December. Critics, inlcuding the Serbian Orthodox Church, are claiming that the authorities want to seize SPC properties.
