The independent Association of Serbia's Journalists (NUNS) condemned on Wednesday "inappropriate insults" on journalist Slavisa Lekic, the author of the 'Ruler' documentary about the political life of President Aleksandar Vucic, the participants in the film and N1 TV which aired the film, by the officials and MPs of the ruling coalition, N1 reported.

The MPs from the „Aleksandar Vucic – Serbia Wins’ list compared Lekic to Nazi criminal Joseph Goebbels and linked him to the Albanian mafia. They also insulted Jugoslav Cosic, N1 News Director, and Vesna Malisic, a journalist and others who took part in the documentary, NUNS said.

„Archive material about Aleksandar Vucic’s political life and the opinions of journalists, researchers and professors about him and his work cannot and must not be a motive for the deputies to abuse the Parliament and brutally attack and label the authors and broadcaster. The experience teaches us that such targeting of the journalists can lead to heavy consequences for the safety of our colleagues,“ NUNS warned.

It added it would register the state officials’ attacks and pressure on media and inform the international journalists’ organisations about them.
