Serbia's Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) decided to monitor the N1's and Nova S' coverage of the election campaign ahead of the April 26 general vote, although, according to the secret REM report from the ballot four years ago discovered by Center for Investigative Journalism (CINS), the Body monitored only TVs with national frequency, N1 reported.
N1 TV started five and a half years ago as a regional cable TV, while Nova S began its programme on March 25 last year.
The new approach by REM was agreed by its Council on March 2.
"At the 214th session held on March 2, 2020, the Regulator's Council decided to monitor the media service providers (PMU) N1 TV and Nova S during the election campaign. The decision was brought by the principles the Regulator's Council published on its website and which are valid for all media service providers whose programmes are available to Serbia's citizens. The mentioned principles are especially highlighted for all media service providers to honour the Law on Electronic Media and the European Convention on Transfrontier Television," REM told N1.
