The state will halt the export of basic groceries in the next month as well as the export of sanitisers, President Aleksandar Vucic said following the economic crisis management committee meeting on Saturday.

As of today, he stressed, the number of respirators that are available in the country is a state secret.

“Citizens should not worry about basic groceries. We plan to end with all this in two months... We will stop the export of basic groceries for at least 30 days,” said Vucic, adding that producers of toilet paper and sanitizers will not be able to export their products on foreign markets either.

The state, he explained, will compensate for the lack of liquid assets with the loans from the Development Fund, with an interest rate of one percent.

“We have 13.5 billion Euro of foreign currency reserve, five billion more than we had a few years ago. We have 30.5 tonnes of gold, nine tonnes in Bern, Switzerland, so we can pay it at any moment. Our monetary and fiscal stability do not come into question,” stressed the President.

When it comes to the firms and individuals affected by COVID-19 virus, Vucic said that “we will help as much as we can.”
