Epidemiologist: Schools should be closed for the rest of school year

According to the expert, the schools should remain closed for the rest of this school year.

Speaking to Prva TV, Kon said he believed that the decision on the school shutdown has already been passed and that the number of those infected in Serbia is yet to increase.

He objects the idea of halting the classes for a couple of weeks only, because in that case, as he said, the students would be back to school exactly at the moment when the epidemic is at its peak.

Instead, Kon suggests that the schools should be shut down for the rest of the school year and the students would then attend summer school classes to catch up on the schoolwork they missed.

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Friday that experts decided the schools, kindergartens and universities should not close at this moment due to the coronavirus outbreak, and she asked both parents and teachers as well as the school principals to understand this and to hear the advice of experts. She also said that changing this decision is a possibility.
