The police in Montenegrin capital have detained a person from Belgrade under the suspicion that he breached health regulations to combat a serious contagious disease, Montenegro's Police Administration said on Saturday.

The person with initials O.O., originally from Belgrade, published a post on a social network, scheduling a gathering near Podgorica’s train station.

The police found some 500 citizens and 200 cars on the site, which violated the measures of the Health Ministry on banning public gatherings.

Acting in response to the coronavirus outbreak, the ministry on Friday introduced temporary measures towards the prevention of the virus spread, including the ban on public outdoor gatherings.

The police filed criminal charges against O.O., and he was taken over by competent state prosecutor.

Montenegro has not detected the COVID-19 virus presence on its territory but despite that its authorities introduced measures to prevent a possible spread.

Among other measures, the authorities also temporarily closed the schools.
