Serbian Traffic Minister Zorana Mihajlovic said on Thursday that freight transport in the country is operating but with difficulty and warned that all traffic could be banned from urban areas.

Mihajlovic said that both air and rail traffic had been restricted and warned that traffic could be banned in cities and towns by order of local authorities.

“Freight traffic is functioning and we are in contact with all the countries of the region and further to do everything to keep Serbia supplied better,” she told the state TV (RTS).

According to the latest Serbian auto club (AMSS) report, trucks spend up to 10 hours waiting to cross Serbia’s borders in the north and south of the country.

The Serbian authorities imposed a state of emergency across the country on Sunday, March 15 calling the population to stay at home to help stop the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and later imposing a curfew and ban on movement for the elderly.
