Epidemiologist: Coronavirus situation in Serbia exceeded some expectations

Kon told TV Prva that, according to what we have seen so far, there are major differences with respect to common virus behaviour.  

"The problem is we don't know much about this at the moment," Kon said.  

According to the epidemiologist, it was projected that the epidemic could take six weeks and would then start to calm down, but the situation in Italy proved that wrong. Now, the question that remains is how long it will last in Serbia.  

"I would say that all of us dealing with epidemics did not expect to see what is happening in Italy, especially throughout the past two days, because I was expecting that the time had come for it to reach its peak," said Kon

He speculated that one of the reasons for the situation in Italy is that social distancing was introduced too late.  

Italy has recorded the highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in a single day in the past 24 hours - 793. The country has surpassed China in the number of deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic.
