The new mask project was among 12 financed with 53 million Dinars (some 450,000 Euro) by the Fund for Innovations.
The author of the mask Nikola Krstic said the first contingent would be 5,000 masks and that the plan was to produce 30,000, but added they would try to make more.
He said that filters could be changed after a few days, while the masks could be disinfected with ethanol or simply washed with soap.
Krstic said that although the mask was compatible with several types of filters, he suggested using HEPA model since it protected not only from viruses but also from polluted particulates, gases and other microparticles.
Asked about the project of the first Serbia-made respirator, Krsic said his "neighbour from Science -Technological Park, molecular biologist Marko Panic from Smart Research company, was working on that and that his team was “absolutely capable.”
