SzS Belgrade City Assembly group chief Nikola Jovanovic said that Mayor Zoran Radojicic and the city emergency situations staff should shut down all the betting shops and gambling establishments in the Serbian capital. “Every gathering of people, especially for a reason such as playing poker machines is an unnecessary public health risk,” the deputy leader of the People’s Party is quoted as saying in a SzS press release.
He said that “it’s not logical to keep betting shops open while at the same time closing open air markets, schools, kindergartens, restaurants, shopping malls, cafes and parks” and added that betting should not get special treatment during the pandemic. “We are calling the city emergency situations staff to take a decision in the public interest and the health of the population, not under pressure from different lobbies,” he said.
