The US embassy to Kosovo said on Wednesday that Pristina should abolish all 100 percent import taxes on goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina and should not create new barriers, the KoSSev website reported.
Kosovo’s acting Prime Minister Albin Kurtitold reporters late on Tuesday that his Government lifted the tariffs introduced in November 2018, and put the Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on the normalisation of relations on hold.
"Kosovo should remove all taxes and not to raise new barriers, because such politics damage Kosovo people and stifle the economy,” the embassy said in a statement.
It added that the US remained against the decision to introduce the reciprocal measures on the flow of goods from Serbia.

The US has said on several occasions it was against the reciprocity, clearly asking Kurti, whose cabinet had recently been voted out, to unconditionally abolish taxes. Contrary to the US, the European Union welcomed Kurti’s decision, adding it was important since “the regional cooperation was crucial.”
Later on Wednesday, Kurti wrote on his Facebook profile that the reciprocity measure imposed on Serbia after he abolished the taxes, “widens a possibility of mutual respect and rights between the countries and that it would be gradual and proportional to the behaviour of Serbia’s authorities.
