N1 TV responded to attacks on the station and its staff by the Kurir tabloid, saying that it would initiate legal proceedings both in Serbia and the European Union.

“The Kurir tabloid, owned by Igor Zezelj, has accused our journalists and editors of spreading panic and endangering lives. N1 wants to announce that it will initiate the appropriate legal proceedings before state bodies in Serbia and in the EU because of an article titled THIS IS HOW THE CREDIBILITY OF THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IS DESTROYED: This is how N1 reports on corona – producing lies to spread PANIC,” a statement said.

“The constant attacks against journalists and N1 have been reinforced with groundless accusations that we have spread panic by airing statements from doctors and patients about the state of hospitals and because there was no “other side” in our reports. The tabloid which, according to an official report from the Press Council, violated the code 1,106 times with its headlines in the first half of last year alone, including 151 violations in stories about minors, has continued in this unscrupulous campaign against N1 with its old practice, this time with accusations which could put our journalists in danger. We want to recall that an analysis by the Raskrinkavanje portal proved that Kurir published at least 142 false news items in 2019 with no proof of the claims in them or relevant sources. They engaged in spy affairs, a special war against Vucic, and opposition leaders and MPs were also subjects as agents of foreign intelligence services and players in Kurir’s groundless and false news,” the N1 statement said.
