The opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS) on Thursday asked Internal Affairs Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic whether the ministry had issued permits for the people who gatheredd on the rooftops of high-rise buildings with flaming torches and fireworks during the curfew on Wednesday night.
“Who are those people suspected of being organized by the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its leader Aleksandar Vucic? Who allowed them to bring in, set up and take down the sound system used for political slogans such as the ones against a Serbian opposition leader,” the press release said. Men gathered on rooftops of high-rise buildings in several cities across the country during the curfew, lighting torches and shouting offensive slogans against opposition leader Dragan Djilas.
The SzS said the incidents were organized with the aim of intimidating the people protesting peacefully by banging pots, blowing whistles and playing music every evening at 8:05 pm from their windows and terraces without violating the curfew. The press release called the minister to immediately say how many people were arrested for curfew violations and whether they are in jail.
