Radio DIR: Why was our reporter not allowed to attend press conference?
In a letter addressing Serbia’s Government, the Culture and Information Ministry and Serbia’s Journalist Association, Radio DIR asked why their reporter was not allowed to attend a press conference and ask questions and argued that some media are treated differently than others.
“Such an approach by the bureau for cooperation with the media deserves to be condemned by the public as it stifles media freedom,” DIR radio said in a statement.
It said that their reporter was not allowed to enter a press conference on April 28 although he was accredited.
“Who wants to make divisions between the media by allowing privileges to some of them, why are you doing it and are you trying to stifle media freedom,” DIR asked.
DIR also said that two of its reporters were attacked by supporters of the ruling party in Kikinda on April 30 while on the job.
“We ask of Serbia’s Government and journalist organisations to stand in defence of journalists who selflessly and faithfully do their jobs and inform citizens across Serbia," the statement said.
