Civic Initiatives: 42 violations of citizens' freedoms during state of emergency

Civic Initiatives, a civil society organisation in Serbia, said they recorded 42 cases of violations of freedom of expression and information since the start of the state of emergency in Serbia.

In the statement, the organisation said that they have been closely following the situation and reporting on cases where the freedom of association, gathering and expression were being breached and that nearly a third of those cases were related to stifling freedom of access to information.  

N1 spoke to the head of the organisation, Maja Stojanovic, spoke to N1 about these findings.

In its statement for World Press Freedom Day, May 3, the organisation said that the state of emergency in the country has clearly shown the “immeasurable importance of objective reporting at the local level” and that local media and journalists are now in even worse off.
